Chesapeake Country, Abbeville Press 1990. 4th Printing summer of 2000, authored by Lucian Niemeyer with an essay by Eugene Meyer. A regional natural history and social guide to one of the worlds most romantic maritime play areas, the Chesapeake Bay area. The story centers around the natural history of the bay and the natives who lived around it. In 1607, John Smith settled at Jamestown, which later moved the government to Williamsburg, Va. The story takes two tracks, the watermen and the plantations. The area plays a large role in the struggle for independence. The two historical tracks set the stage for the emergence of village centers and finally cities. The environmental state-of-the bay plays an important role in this story of the Bay. Hardbound and oversize, this beautiful photographic essay remains one of the cornerpost books of the Bay. Was reprinted and on the market July of 2000. Sometimes can be found used on the internet at bibliofind. $37.50 new

Their acceptance of Mr. Niemeyer and the help that they gave him gives one an unprecedented and unembellished photographical view of their ways. Dr. Kraybill's succinct text cuts to the essence of their history and faith. Many perplexing questions are answered here. A powerful and insightful look at the Amish and their ways. It has taken its place as one of the important books on the Amish. Currently the soft-bound version and hardbound versions are available on the used book market.
